The main EBU Technology & Innovation Award acknowledges individuals or groups who have developed technologies, systems, or services with the potential to have a major impact on broadcast media in the coming years. To qualify, the work needs to have been completed or have reached a major milestone in the two years prior to the nomination. In 2020, the adjudication panel chose to declare joint winners for the T&I Award: a France Télévisions project using AI-based tools to help data journalists distil key information from election debates; and the development by Belgium's RTBF of Control Room 42, a software-based programme production control room that allows each user to configure their multi-task workstation according to their own needs, whether they are producing television, radio or digital content.

New for 2021 is the Young Engineers and Researchers Award. The idea is to highlight and encourage young engineering talent across the EBU memberhsip who have shown unusual ingenuity and creativity. Nominees should be recent graduates or newcomers to PSM. The judges will be looking for technological novelty or original concepts that can be showcased through demonstrations, prototypes, proofs of concept, trials or similar.
